Her appeareances on "In Lving Color" opened doors for her to get small acting parts in other televison shows and series. Her first feature film was Mi Familia in 1995.Her big breakthrough role was the starring role in Selena, made in 1997. It is about a Spanish singer and her rise to stardom and eventual demise. For her work in this film, Jennifer earned widespread praise and a Golden Globe nomination. She starred in many more movies including Monster-in-law and Maid in Manhattan. Not all of her movies were successful. For example Gilgi and Angel Eyes failed at the box office. She has also tried her hand at producing with a thriller called Bordertown in which she starred beside Antonio Banderas.
